Who doesn’t love Sagada? It offers a beautiful mountain range, cool weather, towering pine trees, endless verdant landscapes, fresh air, rice terraces, and many more, which can genuinely mend someone’s heart and soul. There’s something about traveling in the mountains that makes me feel comfortable. Aside from these, I also love the hospitality of the Igorots, which made us feel at home. I went to Sagada with my friends earlier this year, and OptiTravels Philippines coordinated our trip. We stayed on a cozy homestay at Bosaing’s Place during our three-day vacation.
Bosaing’s Place: Your Home in Sagada
This is their tagline posted on their Facebook account, “your home in Sagada,” which reflects the quality of service given to their guests. I experienced it and truly felt at home in this beautiful place.
The homestay is located along Staunton Road, just beside Mapiya-aw Pension. The location is perfect because it is only a kilometer away from the main town, and its vicinity is surrounded by nearby tourist attractions such as the Kiltepan Peak and Echo Valley.
Upon arriving, I immediately fell in love with its homey vibe and endearing atmosphere. On the house’s ground floor, a fireplace sits parallel to the main entrance, giving warmth to its guests. The flooring is made of tiles, and the whole house is embellished with various woodwork with indigenous Cordillera art.
Our room is located on the ground floor, where all the necessities are found, like the living room with a fireplace, kitchen, and dining area for the guests. More rooms are also available on the second and third stories, and each floor has a balcony overseeing the other houses in Sagada. Their shared bathrooms are also neat, with an available hot/cold shower.
Our room can accommodate five people. Since we were five in a group, we accommodated this spacious room. The beds are also made of wood, with pillows and blankets to protect yourself from the relaxed environment. Electric sockets are also available so you can charge your digital devices. On the other hand, the network signal is weak, but I don’t mind it after all. I preferred to stay disconnected from the internet during my travels to relieve my stress from information overload.
The two windows are enough to ventilate our room, and a wooden cabinet is also available to keep our belongings safely.
Indeed, this is your home in Sagada. During our mealtime in the dining area, we could share stories with the owner and play with their kids, Harley and Thor, both less than five years of age (this post was initially published in 2017).
We even had a bonfire activity outside the house after dinner and played fun games together with the other travelers. At night, we acquainted with the locals with a bottle of beer and shared amazing conversations while savoring the warmth emitted from the fireplace. I think it is not just your home in Sagada; it is your family. I felt like I was staying in the house of a close relative rather than being felt like an ordinary visitor.
If ever I’m going to visit Sagada one more time, I will stay in Bosaing’s Place again. For a short period, the people behind Bosaing’s Place gave us an unforgettable experience of Igorot hospitality and a place to stay like home.

Is Bosaing the name of the owner? Never heard of this homestay but I’d consider staying there when I get a chance to go back to Sagada. You’re right, who doesn’t love Sagada? Every person I know who has been there, including me love that place. I didn’t stay that long when I went there so I won’t mind going back to explore more. Thanks for sharing Bosaing’s information. Like as Joe and Pat have said above, you are lucky to be enjoying an era of peace in the Philippines. Years ago, this place had seen a lot of violence and a lot of innocent lives were lost. But I guess times change for the better and here you have a wonderful place to stay
Wow, this is just so amazing experienced. I haven’t been to Sagada and this place is really beautiful. I love the intricate design of the whole house including the welcoming vibes. I also love the fact that you can have a bonfire outside while having some games. This must be something I should experience when I get the chance to visit Sagada soon. Bosaings Place really looks so cosy and homely. I was enamoured with the fireplace, which gives it a nice vintage feel. I can see it is located in a spacious surroundings and has good views of the nearby landscapes too. Definitely looks like a home away from home.

It’s already my second time staying there (my partner’s first), Their hospitality would really make you love Sagada more. We would definitely return to sagada and definitely stay in Bosaing’s place. Would really make you feel at home.

Wow!!! The fireplace though. I would really love to stay on that place. I really can’t stand cold weather so I need something to keep me warm. I remember the time we went to Sagada and our stay doesn’t even have a hot shower. Ugh!

Wow! The little home below Bosaing’s Place was our home for 8 years! We served as missionaries in this wonderful place and Arthur and Cecelia Bosaing were our landlords and real family to us. So many changes in the place, it is hard to take it all in. When we first came to Sagada in 1984, the town had just had electricity for about a year! Wow that was really amazing to know. I couldn’t believe this place has some great origins to tell. I wonder how is it to live in Sagada during the 80s and yes, the Igorots are really kind they also treated us like a family even for a short period of time. 🙂
Thank you for commenting. Yes, the 80’s were very different. As you may know, there was an active insurgency going on during that period. Things were very tense at times. There was a lot of death and executions in the area. Thankfully that is not the case today. There is so much I could share with you, but this may not be the right place. Even with all that was going on, we really enjoyed our work there and the people. On the lighter side: When we first came to Sagada, the Igorots traversed the trails at night with pitch pine torches! Now you see them using their cell phones to light the way!! Also, the whole time we were there, we had no phone service! Many time we had to drive about 6 hours to make a call.
